3 Things to Know Before Your Studio Newborn Session

3 Things to Know Before Your Studio Newborn Session

You’ve booked a studio newborn photography session (yay!), but what now? Those tiny fingers, scrunchy faces, and sleepy little stretches? We’re going to capture all the magic but a little prep goes a long way in making your session smooth and stress-free.

Here are 3 important things to know before your posed newborn session so you’re totally ready:

1. Book Early—Like, Really Early

I totally get it—when you’re expecting, your brain is juggling onesies, baby names, and snack cravings. But if you’re thinking about a studio newborn session, get on the schedule while you’re still pregnant. I only take a limited number of newborns per month to allow wiggle room for due dates.

📍My cozy little studio is located in Smithfield, NC, and it’s fully stocked with wraps, props, and all the things we need to make baby look extra adorable.

Bonus tip: Posed newborn sessions are best when baby is under 2 weeks old—that’s when they’re extra sleepy and love being curled up just like they were in the womb.

2. Bring the Snacks—For Baby

A full belly is key! Whether you’re nursing or bottle-feeding, come with extra milk or formula—more than you think you’ll need. Well-fed babies are calm, sleepy, and much more likely to snooze right through those sweet, squishy poses.

No shame in snack breaks—we take as many as baby needs!

3. Come Ready to Relax (Yes, Really!)

Some poses take a little time, and that’s totally normal. Baby calls the shots, and we go at their pace. My studio in Smithfield is warm, cozy, and designed to help everyone chill—especially your little one.

Your job? Bring a coffee, a snack, and take a breather. Sit back and relax while I handle the swaddling, shushing, and posing. It’s basically the closest thing to a break you’ll get as a new parent—and you’ve earned it.

Final Thoughts

Your baby is only this tiny once, and capturing those first days is pure magic. If you’re looking for studio newborn photography near Raleigh, I’d love to welcome you to my Smithfield, NC studio for a session that’s easy, relaxed, and full of heart.
