Spring is one of the most beautiful times of year for family photos here in North Carolina. After the quiet winter months, everything starts coming back to life — the grass turns green again, trees fill out with fresh leaves, and flowers begin blooming all over Raleigh.
The weather is also perfect for photos. It’s warm but not yet humid, the sunlight is soft, and kids are usually happy to be outside exploring.
If you’re planning your spring family session in the Raleigh area, choosing the right location can make a huge difference in the look and feel of your images. There are so many wonderful Raleigh photography locations, and the right setting helps create images that feel natural, relaxed, and timeless.
Below are some of my favorite Raleigh photography locations for spring family photos that offer beautiful scenery, soft light, and plenty of space for little ones to move around.

One of my favorite Raleigh photography locations for family sessions is Historic Oak View County Park.
This park has such a charming, peaceful feel that photographs beautifully in the spring. The historic farmhouse, open fields, and wooden fencing give the space a timeless countryside look while still being conveniently located right in Raleigh.
Why families love this location:
• Wide open grassy fields perfect for kids to run and play
• Beautiful rustic barns and historic buildings
• Soft natural light during golden hour
• A relaxed, natural atmosphere
In early spring you’ll often see fresh green grass and blooming trees, which create a soft, airy backdrop for photos.
If you love natural, slightly rustic family photos, Oak View Park is one of the most charming Raleigh photography locations to consider.

Another beautiful choice among Raleigh photography locations is the park at the North Carolina Museum of Art.
The museum grounds are massive and offer a huge variety of scenery. From open golden fields to tree-lined paths and modern art sculptures, it’s one of the most versatile Raleigh photography locations for family sessions.
Why it works so well for spring sessions:
• Large open fields that glow during sunset
• Beautiful walking paths surrounded by greenery
• Lots of space so sessions never feel crowded
• A mix of nature and modern architecture
The open fields at the museum park photograph especially beautifully in the evening light. It’s one of my favorite Raleigh photography locations for golden hour family sessions.

If you want colorful spring flowers in your photos, the WRAL Azalea Garden is one of the most iconic Raleigh photography locations during spring.
Every year the garden explodes with bright pink, purple, and white azaleas. When everything is in bloom, the entire space feels like walking through a storybook garden.
Things to know about this location:
• Peak bloom usually happens in April
• The garden features winding paths, bridges, and fountains
• The colorful azaleas create a vibrant spring backdrop
• It’s perfect for families who love bright floral photos
Because this is one of the most popular Raleigh photography locations in spring, sessions are usually scheduled early in the morning or close to sunset for the best light.

If you love the idea of lush gardens and colorful blooms, the JC Raulston Arboretum is another incredible option among Raleigh photography locations.
Located near NC State, this botanical garden is full of beautifully curated spaces that feel like walking through multiple mini gardens all in one place.
Why this location is great for family photos:
• Gorgeous seasonal flowers and blooming plants
• Beautiful garden paths and pergolas
• A variety of backgrounds within a small area
• Perfect for bright, colorful spring photos
Spring is especially beautiful here because different flowers bloom throughout the season, meaning the garden always has something interesting in bloom. It’s easily one of the most picturesque Raleigh photography locations for families who want a garden setting.

Juniper Creek Farm is a beautiful private property that offers a quiet and scenic setting for photos filled with seasonal flowers.
This location has open fields, a red barn, seasonal flower fields and soft golden light that creates a dreamy backdrop for family sessions.
What makes this spot special:
• Wide open fields with tall grasses and wildflowers
• Sunflowers
• Beautiful golden hour sunsets
• A peaceful private setting away from busy parks
Because this is a private farm location, there is typically a farm usage fee required to photograph here. The fee helps support the property and allows photographers access to one of the most unique countryside-style Raleigh photography locations available.
If you want natural, countryside-style family photos, this is one of the most charming Raleigh photography locations in the area.

Spring sessions in the Raleigh area typically begin in late March and run through early May, depending on weather and bloom timing.
One of the best parts about spring sessions is how many beautiful Raleigh photography locations come to life this time of year. From gardens to open fields and historic parks, there are so many scenic places around Raleigh that make the perfect backdrop for family photos.
When planning outfits, I always recommend:
• Soft neutrals or pastel colors
• Flowy dresses for moms
• Coordinating colors instead of matching outfits
• Light fabrics that move naturally
These choices photograph beautifully against spring greenery and flowers.
Spring sessions tend to fill quickly because the weather and scenery are so beautiful this time of year. If you’re thinking about booking family photos, it’s best to reserve your date a few weeks in advance.
If you’d love relaxed, natural images of your family at one of Raleigh’s beautiful outdoor settings, I would love to help you plan the perfect session and choose from the best Raleigh photography locations for your family.
