Welcome to my little corner of the internet! This blog is where I share helpful tips for planning your photography sessions, location ideas around Raleigh and Johnston County, and real client sessions from the studio and outdoors. Whether you're expecting a baby, planning family photos, or celebrating your little one's milestones, you'll find inspiration and guidance to help make your session feel relaxed, fun, and meaningful.
oh hey!
oh hey!

Preparing for your baby’s first photo session can feel a little overwhelming—especially in those early newborn days when you’re running on very little sleep! The good news is that when you book with a Raleigh studio newborn photographer, you really don’t need to bring much at all. My goal is to make your experience simple, relaxed, and stress-free so you can focus on soaking up those sweet newborn moments.
Here’s a helpful guide on what to bring to your studio newborn session so you feel completely prepared.

The most important thing to bring to your newborn session is your sweet little baby. Newborn sessions are typically scheduled within the first 7–14 days after birth, when babies are still very sleepy and naturally curl up into those adorable poses.
As a Raleigh studio newborn photographer, I structure sessions around baby’s needs. That means we take plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and cuddles so everyone stays calm and comfortable.
Whether you’re breastfeeding, pumping, or using formula, please bring whatever you normally use to feed your baby.
A full tummy helps newborns stay sleepy and relaxed, which is perfect for those cozy, curled-up newborn photos. Many babies will want to eat during the session, and that’s completely normal! We simply pause whenever baby needs to eat.

Even if your baby doesn’t regularly take a pacifier, I highly recommend bringing one just in case.
Pacifiers can be incredibly helpful for quickly soothing baby during transitions between poses. Many parents are surprised how much smoother the session goes when we have one available.
Parents are always welcome—and encouraged—to be part of the session! Some of the most meaningful images from a newborn session include mom and dad holding their new baby.
As your Raleigh studio newborn photographer, I love capturing those quiet moments between parents and their newborn. These images often become the ones families treasure the most.
Simple, neutral clothing works best for parent photos. Soft tones like creams, whites, or earthy neutrals photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your baby.

If you have anything meaningful you’d like included in the session, feel free to bring it!
Examples might include:
That said, I usually recommend bringing only one or two outfits. Newborns photograph beautifully when they’re kept simple and cozy.

For the majority of newborn sessions, I highly recommend swaddled photos. Babies are naturally comforted when wrapped, which helps them stay sleepy and relaxed during the session.
As a Raleigh studio newborn photographer, I provide photography-specific swaddles that are very different from typical baby swaddles you buy in stores. These wraps are long, thin, and designed specifically for posing newborns safely and comfortably.
My studio includes:
These pieces are carefully chosen to create a timeless, cohesive look for your images.
My favorite photography swaddle shop it Hello Little!

While I do have some bows in the studio, my collection is fairly small. If you have bows or accessories you love, feel free to bring them along!
This is a great way to add a personal touch to your baby’s photos.
Moms are also welcome to use my optional client closet, which includes a selection of dresses that photograph beautifully and match my studio style.
These dresses are chosen specifically to complement newborn photography, creating soft, timeless portraits that keep the focus on your connection with your baby.
When you book with a Raleigh studio newborn photographer, you shouldn’t have to worry about bringing a ton of props or planning every detail. My Smithfield studio—convenient to Raleigh—is fully stocked with wraps, accessories, and styling pieces so everything coordinates perfectly.
All you really need to bring is:
Everything else is taken care of so you can simply relax and enjoy your baby’s first portraits.
If you’re currently expecting and looking for a Raleigh studio newborn photographer, I would love to help you capture these fleeting early days with your little one. These tiny details change so quickly, and having beautiful photographs to remember them is something families cherish forever.
