Lifestyle vs. Studio Newborn Sessions

Lifestyle vs. Studio Newborn Sessions: What’s the Difference and Which is Right for You?

One of the most common questions I get from new parents is: What’s the difference between a lifestyle newborn session and a studio newborn session? And honestly, it’s a great question because they offer two totally different vibes, and I love them both for different reasons!

Let’s break it down so you can figure out which one feels more you.

🌿 Lifestyle Newborn Sessions: Real Life, Real Love

Lifestyle newborn sessions are all about your family and the newest addition. These sessions happen in your home — your cozy living room, the nursery you spent hours decorating, maybe even your big ol’ comfy bed. The goal is to capture your family in your natural environment, soaking up those sweet newborn days.

They have a candid, relaxed feel but don’t worry — I won’t just show up and say, “Okay, go live your life!” I give plenty of direction and posing to help you feel comfortable and look your best. I’ll guide you through what to do with your hands (I know, the eternal question), where to stand, how to hold your sweet babe — all the things.

📸 Who’s the star? The whole family! Mom, dad, siblings, and of course, your newest little love.

📍 Where? In your home! Whether that’s snuggled on the couch, hanging in the nursery, or playing in your favorite cozy spots.

🗓 When? Baby can be up to a month old, but I recommend scheduling when they’re around 2-3 weeks. That way, you’ve had a minute to settle in but still get those sleepy, snuggly vibes.

🤍 Studio Newborn Sessions: Classic, Timeless, Baby-Focused

Studio sessions are a little more structured and a lot more baby-focused. These are where we get those classic newborn portraits — the close-ups, the tiny toes, the soft blankets, and even a few fun, themed setups if you’re into that (think sweet baskets, florals, minimalistic wraps — I’ve got you).

These sessions have less of the family vibe and more solo baby shots. You’re welcome to hop in for a few family pictures if you want, but the star of the show is definitely your little one.

📸 Who’s the star? Baby, baby, baby.

📍 Where? In my cozy, fully-stocked studio! Everything you need is here — wraps, props, all the cute things.

🗓 When? It’s best to schedule these before baby is 2 weeks old. Newborns are super sleepy and flexible in those early days, which helps us safely achieve those sweet, curled-up poses.

So Which One Should You Choose?

If you want those natural, in-the-moment family memories where everyone feels at ease in their own space — lifestyle is your jam.

If you’re dreaming of timeless, baby-only portraits that you can frame forever — studio is calling your name.

And hey, you can’t really go wrong. Either way, you’ll walk away with beautiful images of this fleeting season.

If you’re still not sure, let’s chat! I’d love to help you pick the perfect session for your family. 💛
